Important Announcement
The Middleport Community Input Group has been recognized by the EPA receiving their Environmental Quality Award. This is one of the highest awards given by the EPA and recognizes the MCIG's effort to achieve an environmentally safe community while trying to maintain the character of the village. This award was be presented to the MCIG by Mike Infurna from the EPA at the June 9th MCIG meeting. The Middleport Community Input Group was formed in 2006 as a citizen-led forum to provide community input to the FMC Corporation, the US Environmental Protection Agency, NYS Department of Environmental Control and NYS Department of Health regarding the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) effort associated with FMC’s operations and cleanup in Middleport, NY.
US EPA Award presented to Bill Arnold

Monthly meetings are held with FMC and the government agencies where there is a discussion of all aspects of the RCRA action. The group has had a strong voice in the decisions made in this process.

Working on behalf of the community, the group has provided to FMC and the agencies, their expectations of how the project should be conducted and how decisions should be made. Community seminars have been held where residents can hear from FMC and government representatives in addition to scientists in the field of arsenic contamination and cleanup. Residents have been encouraged to express their opinions and concerns.

The CIG has solicited resident input through one-on-one discussions and surveys so they can understand what the concerns are in the community. The group maintains this website where residents can read documents pertinent to the RCRA action, express opinions, vote in polls and read notes from the group's meetings.
Note: The MCIG has also received a citation from Congressman Chris Lee's office. To view the Congressman's letter click here and to view the citation, click here.

The actual citation is mounted on the wall just inside the entrance of village hall.
