soil sampling — soil is taken from different locations and analyzed in a laboratory to determine what is present in the soil.

well sampling — water is pumped from a well and analyzed in a laboratory to determine what is present in the water.

well survey — an inventory of wells that are still accessible. The well may not be in use but water can be pumped from it to be tested.
